         i. The flag shows significance because it is supposed to be a country of redeem, justice, and happiness but that does not show in the photograph.
   b. He was slowly understanding the problems behind closed doors not only in Washington and but the rest of the country and world. He was also inspired by the original as can be seen with the similarities of the two photos.
   c. She had lost many family members yet there was no care for that with black people in this society and still had to work hard hours in the lowest point of her life just to live.

B.  Roy Stryker, Parks' mentor at the time, encouraged him to continue working with Watson after seeing this photograph. Following Stryker's lead, Parks went on to create a series of photographs capturing her daily life - in church, at work, and in her home. Says the Art Story article.
C. Ella Watson was a person of color and a custodian/janitor at the Farm Security Administration.

Both of the photos were taken during hard times to show what people where going through well the one during the great depression shows the success of the farmers and how their work payed off, Ella's photo shows that she is working as hard as she can but she can not financially advance in the modern society because of the time period.

A significant detail to this painting is the broom. The broom symbolizes the type of jobs and the hard work they had to do, and that there was still a divide between races.
i. What does the American flag add?
The American flag brings a question into our minds. If we are all Americans then why are we treating our own this way, why are we segregating based upon skin color?
b. What influenced Gordon Parks to photograph this? What were his inspirations?
The influence to taking this photo was his personal experiences in D.C. of his struggles on being told where he can and cannot sit, what he can and cannot buy, and the constant stares from others for things he does. His inspiration for this photo was the struggles this woman had explained to Mr. Parks.  
c. What is the significance of Ella Watson in this painting?
The significance of Ms. Watson is that she has lived through the struggles that many of the African Americans had faced during this depressing time.
d. What was happening, socially or financially, during this time period when this photograph was taken?
Socially there was mainly segregation between the white and black communities. Financially, it was hard for African Americans to even find jobs due to the segregation and employers not knowing what to do with them. The period this photo is taken place in the depression era.

These pieces of art are similar because they represent a hard time for Americans financially. They both brought awareness to things that we need to avoid and stay away from.
