One of the main features of PBL is the improvement of the students' motivation during the development of the activities and the fortification of the interest about researching and finding a solution about a particular issue. This sets up a growth of the students' skills and, at the same time, their "know-how" becomes stronger than before.
Games give to the students the same motivation to win an award or a prize or to take a point and allows them to activate all of their ability and expertise to achieve the maximum score.

PBL and games are closely linked because both of them mean adopt more imaginative and innovative approaches to education. PBL and games allow students:
- to experience through practice.
- to collaborate with their classmates.
- to discover new models.
- to learn from observation.

I think PBL and games have a lot in common ... first because in both there is a motivation or a task to solve .. it is necessary to come up with a solution that involves a search path. And this path that is done by the discovery leads to a series of learning ... I think games can also be used as an aid to the PBL.

In my opinion PLB and games:
- develop in students the desire for learning
- highly motivate our students
- teach our students to be independent in learning to take the control of their learning
- make our students to work together and enjoy it

Games and PBL approach could share whatever we plan. I mean, games reach every side of personality or reality we want to work in or improve so, at the end, educational games share most of the core characteristics of PBL approach such us the rising autonomy, the motivation, vivid experience, real and authentic learning on the ground, free will to act actively in the search of an objective and so many others.

If talking about similar characteristics, I think these two types of learning may teach children to gain their freedom, I mean they may decide themselves which strategy to choose, which technique to use, what to create and how to do it.

in my opinion a very important aspect common to the pbl and the gamification strategy is the social dimension of learning.

I will describe a project I made with my students, because I think it is a good example for learning by realizing a project. We had the possibility to make an Media licence, something like a certificate. We had the material, where we see, that there were object like: be safe in facebook, how we can create a safe password etc. So we went to a special place in Munich, called Room 42, where we got help from fantastic people in a great modern environment. There we made groups and every group had to create a video (by using iPads or cameras) in order to show the problem and to give advices to other students at our school. They work completely alone, because they didn´t need our help. They solve all the problems by themselves. At the end we saw the videos altogether and thought about which one was the best.
Here are the videos they created:

1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y2kzJxGVZ8&t=4s
2)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm7QsAQ3nbo&index=63&list=UU39JTPMVmsb2EvF2XgF7GLQ
3)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtpHM2ircXE&index=64&list=UU39JTPMVmsb2EvF2XgF7GLQ
4)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NMhv9gfbp0&list=UU39JTPMVmsb2EvF2XgF7GLQ&index=62

Problem based learning has several distinct characteristics which may be identified and utilized in designing such curriculum. These are:

+Use of real world problems - problems are relevant and contextual. It is in the process of struggling with actual problems that students learn content and critical thinking skills.
+Reliance on problems to drive the curriculum - the problems do not test skills; they assist in development of the skills themselves.
+The problems are truly structured - there is not meant to be one solution, and as new information is gathered in a reiterative process, perception of the problem, and thus the solution, changes.
+PBL is learner-centered; learners are progressively given more responsibility for their education and become increasingly independent of the teacher for their education.
+PBL produces independent, life-long learners - students continue to learn on their own in life and in their careers.
At the other hand:
" An essential feature of any game is conflict between two or more players resulting in a win for some and a loss for others. Additionally, games have other characteristics which make them playable. There is a way to start the game. There are defined choices players can make for any situation that can arise in the game. During each move, single players are forced to make choices or the choices are assigned by random devices (such as dice). Finally, the game ends after a set number of moves and a winner is declared. Obviously, games such as chess or checkers have these characteristics, but other situations such as military battles or animal behavior also exhibit similar traits.

During any game, players make choices based on the information available. Games are therefore classified by the type of information that players have available when making choices. A game such as checkers or chess is called a "game of perfect information." In these games, each player makes choices with the full knowledge of every move made previously during the game, whether by herself or her opponent. Also, for these games there theoretically exists one optimal pure strategy for each player which guarantees the best outcome regardless of the strategy employed by the opponent. A game like poker is a "game of imperfect knowledge" because players make their decisions without knowing which cards are left in the deck. The best play in these types of games relies upon a probabilistic strategy and, as such, the outcome can not be guaranteed.

Read more: Game Theory - Characteristics Of Games - Players, Choices, Strategy, and Information - JRank Articles http://science.jrank.org/pages/2909/Game-Theory-Characteristics-games.html#ixzz5SqmZ9UE0

There are more advantages to using both PBL and games in the classroom than to using Lockstep. Firstly, students are actively involved, they construct knowledge and they use the newly-constructed knowledge to address problems in real-life. Both teacher and students cooperate, build knowledge and influence each other. The atmosphere in the classroom is cooperative, collaborative and supportive. what is more, teaching and assessment are interwoven. Assessment is meant to promote learning, to generate better questions and to learn from errors.

I think that emplementing both PBL approach and gaming in classroom will engage and motivate all the learners especially the low achiever ones. since this will push them to contribute actively in the learning process. on the other hand, gamfication enhances the interaction between learners creating an atmosphere of self-confidence but also collaboration. It encourages learners to be more and more creative and critical thinkers. Thus games is by no mean a good way to foster the 21st century skills.
