- From this visit, the first thing I can reflect on is my appreciation towards Malaysia, especially Sarawak, for having such facilities (although not many) that provide treatment for the mentally ill, therefore acknowledging the importance of mental health as an issue that requires proper attention.
- Next, I felt grateful to the hospital staff and volunteers that for their noble work, as I myself admit that I could never work in such a place as it was quite intimidating and uncomfortable to be in.
- Lastly, I realised how easy it was to develop a stigma towards mental illnesses after seeing the various patients at the hospital and the severity of their mental health. This further proves that these facilities are needed even more than we think and stigma towards this issue affects not only the mentally ill but all of society, as there are currently people out there not getting the treatment they need to be able to function regularly but are too afraid to seek help.

The visit at Hospital Sentosa on 4th December 2019 is really a meaningful trip. It teaches us about the mental health problem like depression, anxiety and etc. a little deep more and it really helpful to increase our knowledge about mental health. For the visit around the hospital, they show us that the patient was put in the ward have many kinds of religion, race and age. All of them have their own story, so it’s kind of sad for them to have mental health problem. But, not all of them are aggressive and of course they still can be cure. So, we really hope that the patient will find the cure for their illness and recover quickly. The staff at Hospital Sentosa is also so kind and good, because they treat us and the patient really good and with kindness. So, i hope that the Hospital Sentosa will success in their business for a long time to help people with mental health problem. Thank you.

In this trip, I got to know 3 things which are those people who are suffering from mental illness is not aggressive like how we typically think. The next reflection is I got to know that mental health awareness is still low among the public. I also realized that the hospital setting is not as what i expected, but it is more better , where it has a bigger space for them to carry out their regular activities.

It was a good experience and it open my eyes widely towards this field. I realized that people with mental illness is not aggressive and they just seek for a help. Secondly, i hope that Malaysia can improve more in facilities or healthcare system for mental hospital. Thirdly, mental illness is just the same as physical illness and people need to open their mind to slowly accept these people.

Personally, it alters the stigma that people with mental health are dangerous and fearful that this group cannot be left alone to suffer from mental disorders. In fact, according to the doctor that gave the talk said that people suffering from mental illness are unlikely to be violent than people who are in healthy mind state.

Stigma always be there but for me for what judging people that have mental health problem? They are also a human, need a special treatment. Furthermore, I can see that how the nurse and doctor treat them. It was poor and has a little bit violence to them. They should be more kind to these patient. Thank You.

It was to me an eye-opening experience during the visit to Hospital Sentosa. First and foremost, it was interesting to see how friendly the nurses and staffs were to the patients, yet able to strike a balance on being strict on their to-do's and not-to-do's. Secondly, it was heartwarming to have met Daniel, a young boy in the forensics ward who is currently stable after receiving treatment, to be reminded that it's never too late to start taking care of one's mental health. Lastly, it was disheartening to see the inefficient use of resources when it comes to the system of mental patients where many do not have a place to go after they have completed the course of treatment. Hence, there is not enough space in the hospital for patients who are in need of treatment. The government has a large role to play in the allocation of budget.

Mereka hanya memerlukan bantuan.
