Street of medieval origin, houses recorded from 12th century onwards. Picturesque facades on one side (behind - clutter of modern development, parking, garages) and old Abbey (Scheduled Monument, founded 1089) walls (13th) on the other side.
Fragments of mid to late-2nd century Roman daub at 26-28 Marygate (possible structure).
19th century - variety of small scale industrial practices, now mainly residential.
