The punk movement started in the UK in the late 1970s, it is one of the most well known youth movements within British culture. The punk subculture includes a large variety of ideologies, fashion and a wide variety of personal expression such as; visual art, literature, music, dance and film. Punks are widely characterised but their anti-establishment views, the DIY aesthetic, the push of individual freedom and expression and the culture that comes from the music genre of punk rock.

I have always had a real interest in the punk movement, I am really drawn towards the idea of being able to express who you are through what you wear and I feel that this, alongside the push of political rebellion, is one of the strongest concepts throughout punk. People were so unapologetically themselves and I really enjoy the connection of this movement to the new romantics/partying scene of the 80s and this incredibly outlandish and confident sense of expression. Throughout generations the youth of the time has had some of the most influences on political and social issues, which I think is seen during the punk movement the most but is also demonstrated throughout the current youth of this generation.

Throughout the planning of the presentation I believe that we worked really well as a group, everyone communicated well throughout and we planned our time effectively. When visiting our chosen shopping district, I unfortunately was unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances. However, I was then able to focus my time on the history of the area and the market which allowed me to contribute towards the tasks that had been set. We all agreed on a layout aesthetic in the beginning of writing and collating our research which created a much more professional and seamless presentation. Due to having dyslexia, I have always had a difficult time when it comes to reading out loud in front of large groups of people, but I believe that the increased tasks that involve presentation work has really built up my confidence and helped me to develop my own ways in which to aid my work when it comes to presenting.

The design museum really developed my understanding of the NEWGEN scheme and how much it has helped to support generations of designers. Throughout the exhibition we are also taught about the huge influence of subculture within fashion and the designers creating these garments. This really allowed me to apply my knowledge from previous PLP sessions of subcultures when visiting the museum. The museum has shown a lot of incorporation with new technologies and encouraging the younger generation within the exhibition, one big example of this is the snapchat filters used in the backstage room. Each area has a very distinctive atmosphere that relates to each display of garments and the theme in which they are taken from.
