In this picture we celabrate the resurrection of Christ on Saturday night. The priest gives the "agio fos" (Holy Light) with a candle to some people and they give it to others and this happens until everyone has it. The priest sings some psalms and everyone leaves with joy. This is a typical celebration in Greece, in some other areas people have other customs.

On Thursday evening, all the Greeks prepare for the Holy Weekend. Everybody makes the delicious sweet Easter bread, called Tsoureki (or buy it from the bakery because it’s very difficult to bake). This is eaten on Easter as the three braid of the bread represent the Holy Trinity. Many people even cut into the shape of a cross. Additionally, eggs are being boiled and dyed red.

Painting and cracking eggs is a custom that most people do. Traditionally the eggs must be painted with the red colour. In Corfu, the morning of Holy Saturday begins at dawn with the custom of the artificial earthquake, while a few hours later (at 11.00 am) the First Resurrection takes place with the throwing of the "boots". This specific custom is an influence of the Venetians, who used to throw old objects from their windows on New Year's Day (the biggest Catholic holiday), in order for the new year to bring them new ones. The people of Corfu appropriated this custom and included it in the Easter festivities. Nowadays, the old objects have been replaced by clay jugs (boots) filled with water.

In sweden we have a thing called påskris, in english it's called easterrice! It's when you go outside and pick some sticks from a tree. Then you can put the sticks in like a box or something else. Then you decorate the rice with different easter eggs! You can also decorate them with like Easther wings but they are fake so dont worry. I'm a christian and i celebrate easter every year. I make a small hole in the egg and then i blow the egg ball out from the egg so i can paint it without getting the egg bal everywhere!My favourite easter candy is probably gummy easter eggs or chocholate! When it is easter in Sweden many peapole eat a lot of candy. I think the kids in Sweden are very happy when it's easter because they get easter eggs. The easter bunny hides your easter eggs at night then at the morning you need to look for them. You also eats very good food. just look on the picture!!!

Easter in Ukraine is a very special event for our people. This year we will celebrate it on the 5 of May. How does it happen? Usually people get up at 4am and go to church to bless their baskets with Easter food and baked goods. This holiday is celebrated in the family home.
