Adam's visual and auditory hallucinations are:
- Rebecca:
A girl who embodies Adam's fears and anxiety however encourages him whenever he needs it.
- The Bodyguard:
The bodyguard represents his protection and threatens all real people even though they can't hear him.
- Joaquin:
A teenager that embodies Adam's inappropriate thoughts.
- The Mob Boss
A cool and collected hallucination. Doesn't say much throughout the story however normally when he does speak it is to harass Adam.
- Jason
Also known as the naked guy. Adam describes him as the weirdest hallucination he has had however Jason is very polite.
- Rupert & Basil
Tend to be the lighthearted hallucination of the group after the bathroom incident. Rupert was the more insulting hallucination before Adam had accepted them, while Basil was off to the side given extra insults if he felt it wasn't enough. They like the words on the bathroom wall, especially, 'Jesus loves you, don't be a homo' which is a recurring line throughout the story.
- These hallucinations interact with the real word however since they are hallucinations, they have no effect on the outside world.

Adam had left the classroom to go to the bathroom after his hallucinations began to bother him. Basil and Rupert are the ones there to attack Adam while Rebecca is there in support of Adam. After the constant waves of headaches and pleading with Rupert and Basil to stop he throws up all over the urinal in the bathroom. Adam begins to lose even more control than he had already lost. Rupert kept attacking Adam with phrases like "You'd rather keep quiet and take your drugs until there's nothing real left in you." and other insults about Adam. After this Adam screams however a third grader walks in with Ian shortly behind. Knowing that Ian knew now, Adam leaves the school with Rupert and Basil still insulting him.

The main words that are on the wall that are recurring is 'Jesus loves you, don't be a homo.' The other words on the walls are supposed to represent what every believes Adam to be and some things are what his hallucinations say. Having this as symbolism shows the reader a lot more than an explanation can do, since everything on the walls are a hallucination other than that first line. This shows that Adam takes all of the comments in and believes some himself.

Reader's Response - All On One Note

1. Off of first glance, I would not have picked this book, however reading only a few chapters and I'm hooked. I have always been interested in hallucination and dissociative mental illnesses and this is the first story that feels like it can be real off of the first few chapters. Adam feels and acts like a real teenager that you can connect with.
2. Ian already bothers me. Even if he is not real, you can see the resemblance with some people you can meet on a daily basis. How they are an absolute jerk just because they are wealthier or are higher class than you.
3. Now that the story is fleshed out and the main basis is laid out, you can tell that something is about to happen. Its in small waves as well. It's very clever foreshadowing that I haven't really seen be used before. However, Maya and Adam's relationship started to escalate a lot faster than I was expecting. Like when they are in the movies and instead of having them get up and finish the movie, they begin to, in Adam's words, "I was on the disgusting movie theater floor, making out with my girlfriend."
4. Having all of the events one after another was a really good way to have the climax. Especially since they all are connected to Adam's schizophrenia. It makes the story more realistic with having one bad thing after another. It also build more character in Adam and the relationships he has, like his relationship with Maya, and how he comes to terms with his schizophrenia.
5. Reading the way Adam grew in this story is really fascinating. I never really thought about how someone with this type of mental illness can grow and prove that it won't affect their life as much as they will let it. The ideas of schizophrenia and the stigmas behind it were fleshed out really well. You could understand Adam's emotions and it felt as if you were the therapist the whole time.
