Delaportas - Cavalieri - Martinez

The polls can be reliable up to a point as people can change their opinion and don't agree with the vote they have chosen before since the polls are not fixed results, they are predictions. Also, some results may be affected by someone or by the political campaigns, changing the results. They might also change the results because they don't agree with the proposal of the candidates. But on the other hand, they are a very useful tool when it comes to knowing what the society, or people in your country could want for the government to do, in what aspects of the country take action or in what they need to improve.

Rudolph- Cao -Del Aguila
Yes, there are new ethical challenges emerging from the increased use of data analytics in political activity and decision-making. For example, with the pandemic governments had to choose whether to close the economy and put in quarantine to see if the number of infections get lower and have the health system not collapse. Or to stay with a normal life for the economy to still be working and companies not to finish in bankruptcy. Statistics are everywhere and make people think whether to go out in a shirt or with a polar because the weather is colder. These challenges are also for society as people will have to adapt to statistics and the way they help us to get conclusions and results.

Students: Agustina Arduino and Clara Baldassare.
The kinds of knowledge that inform our political opinions are persuasive, manipulative, emotive, and oversimplified. This means that politicians shape public opinion and thought. People may manipulate their audience and misinform the general public to achieve their objectives. Political propaganda and some politicians are often one-sided, this means that they only present one part of the whole topic, story, or truth. They present the side they are in, the one that is convenient for them. Or maybe they present both sides, but they persuade more the one they want. This alters the decision-making progress of a person who is acquiring political knowledge. Therefore, the knowledge we learn is affected depending on who is teaching or transmitting that knowledge to us and the language she or he uses.

Students: Macarena Patti and Justina Sisto.
Factual evidence can be easily modified or manipulated by politicians and political parties for their own benefits. For instance, when making campaigns for elections. The number of poor people, the alphabetization degree, the total GDP or GDP per capita and many other statistics can be completely readapted by the government to win an election or a certain campaign. Even during these days, Covid-19 is a key factor for a party to win an election. The number of vaccines available, the deaths and the infected are statistics which can easily affect the result of an election. Therefore they are ‘candidates’ for being used by the government or the opposition for their own aims. Besides, politicians can easily change their persuasion strategies, in order to convince their audience through factual evidence. Generally communist countries are more likely to hide and modify factual information to stow it away from citizens and the world and stay in power. On the other hand, countries which have a capitalist tendency tend to provide verified and true information, since they are more democratic and have free-policies.
