The player will walk around this dark world exploring and something comes up. OR the player needs to explore to find his power source so he can keep his light level high so he doesn't succumb to darkness around the player. You could have an item at the end that the player needs to get so it finishes the game something like that and you have to keep your light level steady when finding this item.

Possibly the player can use his light to do some puzzles, some puzzles requires more light power then other puzzles etc.
