56% of people say product quality is the leading factor in their purchasing decisions. In addition, people also care about cost of shipping, the ease of returns, customer reviews, virtual search options, and many other things. Another way consumers are influenced to buy things is through psychological reactions and emotional reactions. This is done specifically by the color of an ad campaign or logo. For example, blue tends to (in North America at least) cause a feeling of comfort and security in people, while the color red insinuates urgency and energy.

Most companies spend large amounts of money on tracking consumers shopping preferences and decisions to utilize what factors lead to successful sales. Internet companies, like Google, AOL, Yahoo, etc, track online users web browsing experiences to determine what sites get the most traffic. Many companies will pay for online ads to pop up on the sides of webpages to promote internet traffic to their site and products. Researchers have even scanned peoples brains while asking participants questions to find out more about customer's thought processes and preferences when shopping.
