Throughout the process of searching for sources on the current Israel-Palestine war I learned about the importance of doing thorough research when studying specific events or topics. While looking for perspectives on the Al-Ahli hospital bombing I realized that most of the perspectives I had come across were not neutral reports, but rather heavily biased. My first source coming from a Palestinian bias included the use of specific word choice to portray a cruel image of Israel to the reader claiming that, “Israel lies… and murders Palestinians with genocidal impunity”(Yee). The article uses explicit words such as "lies" and "murders" to describe the Israeli as responsible for such things. Likewise, I found in my second source the same usage of language to attract readers who seek to know more about the Israeli perspectives on the hospital bombing. In this article the Jerusalem Post explains, “they are much closer to the sources of Hamas and Iranian propaganda that blankets the region like a winter storm”(Frantzman). With this word choice the article depicts the claim that Israeli sources on the bombing include evidence that the Palestinians lack. These two sources exemplified that each side in the war had totally different approaches and opinions on the explosion proving why it is important to study different perspectives. Finally, gathering my third perspective I was able to spot that same pattern of selective word choice used in the Pro Palestinian perspective from Qatar on the event. In the article Qatar too describes Israel as responsible for the chaos of the explosion by explaining that it was, “ a brutal massacre, a heinous crime against defenseless civilians”(“Qatar strongly condemns''). The integration of strong word choice, and these descriptive adjectives the writers use to support their biases provide the story/ opinions writers want the public to hear. Evidently, the usage of the writers' word choices and adjectives leads me to support/ stress the importance of collecting various perspectives before analyzing what I choose to believe from the news.
