On May 28, 1830 there was an Indian removal act signed by the president Andrew Jackson who was also called “shard knife” by Indians he battled. Which gave him the power to make native Americans surrender there land in exchange for new territory in the west. He believed that Indians did not have the intelligence, the industry, the moral habits, etc which are essential to any favorable change in their condition. Throughout the 1830s tens of thousands of native Americans were relocated to Indian territory (which is now apart of Oklahoma). Then in 1851 The Indian Appropriations Act was authorized and Native Americans were then again forced to move to even smaller parcels of land now called reservations.

Something that I learned about how American Indian Reservations is that it started January 1881, President Andrew Jackson signed The Indian Removal Act on May 28, 1830. This eventually force them to give up their territories in return for territory in the West. Native American tribes were driven off their land, and those who tried to stay were forcibly relocated. They had little choice but to leave their separate places, which resulted in thousands of individuals walking "the trail of tears." Many people grew ill, and thousands died as a result. Another thing that I learned was that Native peoples were forcibly relocated to an even smaller land plots, today known as reservations. The United States government had promised to provide food and other supplies to the relocated tribal people, but these promises were frequently broken, and Native Americans' ability to hunt, fish, and gather food was severely limited.
