Although some may claim that pennies come with many benefits, there are more bad that good. The opposing side has a point to declare that pennies can help with things like charity and donations; but based on the article "Can We All Just Agree That Pennies Are Stupid And Need To Be Retired" by Nick Wing, it states that the government spent nearly $169 million in 2013 just to put $70 million of currency into circulation. This information is crucial to acknowledge because this means that the government is wasting money to produce something that is obsolete. The money being invested into the pennies could be used for other purposes, like poverty.

First Reason by Caitlyn Rodriguez

Let's face it: pennies are great. They're conveniently small enough to store anywhere and they're relatively cheap to make. According to Joe Weisenthal's article Guess How Much It Costs The Government To Produce A Nickel, he states that the nickel costs "...approximately 11.2 cents to produce." Meanwhile, the penny costs a considerate amount less, being made for only 2.4 cents. Although the penny is manufactured for more than what it's worth, the nickel is a bit far from being produced for what it's worth. Due to this, the gorvernment doesn't necessarily spend a lot of money on these great little coins. This leaves good reasoning on why the government should NOT eliminate pennies and should continue making pennies.

"A penny saved is a penny earned," a quote by Benjamin Franklin perfectly explains that pennies played an important role in the economic success of Americans. There have been many debates about whether we should eliminate pennies or keep them as the tiniest worth in the currency world. Even though pennies may worth the least among its siblings, one penny can change a person's life and they are pretty tiny and adorable.

Imagine a world without pennies. According to Amy Livingston‘s article

"Should We Get Rid of the Penny? – 8 Reasons to Keep It vs Eliminate It

" , charities rely on pennies. They can add up to hundreds of millions of dollars in charities each year. The fact that pennies have little worth, people are willing to give their unwanted pennies happily. "Charities such as Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Salvation Army, and Ronald McDonald House raise money through penny drives" Penny drives are beneficial to funding money, they wallow people to donate their unwanted pennies to good causes. Therefore, pennies should not be eliminated.
