In 1970, the Malaysian goverment began to develop the tourism industry to meet several objectives, such as increasing reveneus in foreign exchange, increase employment opportunities and incomes, promote regional development, diversify economy and increase goverment revenue. The Tourist Development Corporation of Malaysia (TDC) was established on August 1972 as an agency under the former ministry of Trade and Industry by an Act of Parliment. TDC was moved to this new ministry and became the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) through the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board Act in 1992.
