According to Marina, Octolings that hear the song become discontent with Octarian society and choose to strike out on their own. He was fighting Agent Three (Blue) and blacked out when he fell through the ceiling of the deep sea metro and woke up with amnesia. He soon became a test subject to the metro. A female Octoling named Nana (Japanese for 7), wearing the full outfit Agent 8 wears also appears initially from Hachi's flashbacks. He came back to help when Hachi and Cap'n Cuttlefish when Commander TarTar tricked them into a blender. He crashed in and bowled into TarTar. He then got sanitized (Look at the sanitized post) and was following orders to kill Hachi and the Cap'n. Hachi defeated him, and while Three recovered, defeated TarTar. Marina notes that the Sanitized appear to have no pulse or signs of life. They resemble their ordinary selves but with different coloration. They have been sterilized with a type of primordial ooze created by Commander Tartar. Sanitized entities are visually distinct from their normal selves by their coloration: a blue-to-neon yellow gradient on their tentacles and eyes with black sclera and glowing aqua blue irises. Their voices sound more digital and compressed and, when splatted, they briefly leave glowing blue pixels and glitch-like squares. Instead of the glitter-like effect that ink has in Octo Canyon, the Sanitized one's ink resembles dishwasher detergent or hand sanitizer. Although the implication is that Octarians lose all free will after sanitization, biographies about Dedf1sh describe how "little of her former self remains", showing that, at least in some cases, Sanitized entities do retain some key memories.This is further evidenced through the subtitle for the Drop the Bass Station: "Back like I never left", indicating that the Sanitized Octostomp remembers the previous battles against the New Squidbeak Splatoon and thus recognizes Cap'n Cuttlefish and sees Agent 8 as its enemy as Agent 8 is an ally of Cuttlefish.The case with Dedf1sh could also be thought of as incomplete sanitization, as the ends of her tentacles are red instead of the usual sanitized green.
