Virtual learning is not challenging my son as he is bored. Engagement for him is key- reading and writing lessons to help promote a deeper understanding would be really beneficial!! We believe trying to set up a google doc is taking up a lot of time that could be academic and instructional. On the home front we can teach how to set up google doc. The time is took this week to do that not only had my son bored but ready to move on. We were bummed to see that day no literacy lesson was taught. We are still wanting some more organization maybe a week ahead glance of what days what math homework will be assigned and ahead of time what materials will need to be turned in rather than the day of. Overall we are ready to head back live and think this will be best for everyone.

Virtual learning is going MUCH smoother than we had anticipated. We love the google docs calendar; it helps her to understand her day and gives her a rough idea of how her week will go which is great. She is learning everything that she needs to and really loves being able to see her friends again. Much different than what we experienced in the spring! The only issues we have had are tech based, and we understand that this isn’t anyone’s fault. Overall, virtual learning has been successful for her. Although it may not be the most ideal form of learning for everyone, it is certainly worth it if it means that the kids are safe. Thank you for everything that you’re doing to make this fun for them, Mr. L!

Virtual learning isn’t your first choice I’m sure, but you are knocking it out of the park Mr. L! These kids are engaged, happy and learning. I like how the day flows and that it is different each day. I like what you said at curriculum night, sometimes the discussions of a book go longer because it is really flowing. I love that! I am noticing Kaya digging deeper into what books mean and I know it’s because of you and these great discussions! Thank you for all of your hard work and all of the creative ways you are keeping the kids focused:)

So far it has been going as well as can be expected. These are challenging times and we appreciate your ability to connect with the class and make a schedule that has a healthy amount of acamdeic time and breaks built in it. I think you have taken a nice approach to ensuring the class is ready for their work and how to easily navigate the platform. Thank you for your communication as well as it is much appreciated.
My only comment would be perhaps to utilize the daily icons for each day with the link embedded into the day? I know that makes it a little easier to just go to that day instead of the scrolling google doc. I like the doc as I see the week in advance which helps tremendously, however, if the daily icons were filled that would help too. I also know this is all time consuming and you already have a ton on your plate to deliver quality institution through a remote platform. We appreciate the hard work and communication! Thank you!

Dave M

We appreciate all you are doing!!! Eleanor is happy to attend school each day and to see her friends. As a fellow teacher I understand the strain virtual learning
can take on your own family. Every Oakridge teacher is still putting their students first and working tirelessly to set up their online classrooms. You guys are rocking it! Thank you for being open to feedback.

This virtual learning stuff is tough, but Thor is lucky to have a teacher who embraces technology and is making it fun and exciting. The new programs the students are using take some time to learn, and you have been patient and diligent about making sure every child knows what to do and how to do it. It would be wonderful if there was a second teacher or para to work through some of the tech issues with the kids, so you dont have to take time to keep everyone caught up. (Wishful thinking) We love the variety of apps and programs for the students to use, so the kids aren't missing the partner and group work as much. Nothing can replace the social aspect of being in a classroom, yet Thor and his classmates are interacting with you and each other and excited to log in each day. Thank you for working so hard to make this experience work for everyone.

We have been super impressed by how well virtual learning has been going for Lukas, and pleasantly surprised that he loves it! It's not the ideal situation, but I believe it's the safest and best choice right now. There are times we need to help him re-focus, but he seems to do fairly well most of the time on his own, and he actually has been taking ownership of his schedule throughout the day. I can tell you've put a lot of time and care into teaching the students virtually and you've been doing a great job. I like that you're flexible with the schedule to allow for ample discussion if it happens. I also really like the variety of apps that you've been using, Lukas loves them! He is obsessed with code.org. Every day at 4pm we have an alarm go off to talk about something that made us happy that day, it's been a really nice addition to help with the mental health aspect of what's going on, and almost every day, one of Lukas's things is school. I also agree that while it doesn't totally replace the social aspect of school, you've been doing a great job of engaging with the kids in class. We can't be very present with him since we're both still working from home full-time, but we do listen in when we're able every so often. Thank you for all of your hard work to make this enjoyable and productive for the kiddos, and for requesting feedback!

Dennay B

We think you’re doing a phenomenal job with the challenges that we are all dealing with. Ian A few times flatly refuses to do some of the work, I am at a loss when this happens. I think he’ll do better when he is in school, but at this time I realize we can’t. I just want all these kids to be safe when they come back. I feel that when I have needed you you have been there for us, I appreciate that more than you will know. Jennifer
