The Origin and Singularity of a Typical Highschooler (And His Journey to Understand It) by Santiago Ramos Hernández Magro

A diary full of emotions, thoughts and self-realizations about my global and personal identity. A semester that could be compared to a vital learning but beyond that, an epiphany about what we all represent in a cultural and interconnected sense.

This is called the Jin Chan, it symbolizes prosperity in the Chinese culture, more specific, the Feng Shui practice. My mom and dad bought it in a Chinese antique shop during a trip to Manhattan. My mom is a strong and bold believer of Feng Shui and wanted to give our house a more spiritual meaning, including this frog that supposedly attracts prosperity. I think my family is appreciating this culture by respecting their beliefs and at the same time learning from it.

I chose Banksy’s Mona Lisa Bazooka because it represents for me the change and revolution of what youthful minds can achieve relentlessly by warping their ancestor’s work and creativity. Banksy utilizes La Gioconda, one of the most iconic paintings in the world. Banksy gives Da Vinci's Mona Lisa a forceful, conflictual, and dynamic sensibility, whereas Da Vinci's Mona Lisa appears elegant and quiet. Her serene facial expression is retained, but her welcoming grin appears somewhat frightening in comparison to the strong weapon. It may also be seen as a comment on how oblivious civilians have become perpetually participating in war, which is always taking place somewhere other than their calm lives. Art can be seen as violent, peaceful or even stupid for some. Its meaning appears to each one of us differently because of the situation we are currently living in. Art seems to read us better than we are at reading it, it scans us and determines the effect we need at that time. Art revolutionizes minds and spirits and can change our way of perceiving our past traumas or present joys. We should view it carefully and with a feeling of change.

The management of cultural diversity and integration based on minority groups among members of the dominant group is one of the most pressing current societal concerns. In dealing with these issues, a multicultural viewpoint may be quite useful. This viewpoint has a favorable impact on intergroup interactions, creativity, intellectual and civic engagement, as well as learning an organizational dedication. Multicultural education fosters cross-cultural competence. The culture that an individual will portray at any one time will be dictated by the circumstances. We must rationally distinguish between the numerous identities available to people and their core social identities in a given cultural group, despite the fact that they are plainly connected. This subject has helped me develop skills to work towards the elimination of prejudices and stereotypes associated with each culture. As well as promoting harmonious coexistence between cultures and fostering valuable exchanges between different cultural groups.
