This young woman truly embodies the meaning of obtaining self-reliance. The ambition of which she thrives on, allows her to create her own journeys and want that sense of adventure and thrill.
"Accept the place the divine Providence has found
for you; the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events."
This quote explores the idea of accepting one's destiny in their own way.

This musical piece written about the separation of codependency embodies the emotions attached to the new sense of Self-Reliance. The specific lyrics,
"So far away, but still so near...you dont see me standing here." truly show the emotional attach of one to another human. Calum, here, is having a quite difficult time accepting that he must be on his own and self-reliant.

In this excerpt the author emphasizes the great importance of our influencers that were misunderstood in their time. A great example here would be Mrs. Rosa Parks. Parks spent most of her young adult life fighting the ugly battle of segregation, inferiority and Jim Crow laws shoved in her face. Her ability to fight back and have no fear was questioned in her time. She was 'crazy', or 'reckless'. Now, though, we notice rather than 'crazy' she was brave, and rather than 'reckless' she was dedicated.

In this quote the author is exploring the idea of the importance in trusting one's self. We as a society are so used to the need of acceptance from others. When that is not received we feel nothing, not gratitude, no pride and we might as well be looking at a shadow on a wall.

Chris McCandless can only be best described as self-reliant. Through his lifetime her dreamed of living off the grid, remotely and on his own. No burden of others or a partner. Chris did just that. He ventured into the woods as a hitchhiker never to be seen again. He depended on himself, and himself only.
