Something I learned from this video is that parents and schools have lots of power over what books are banned, even if they're books that teach people about important thing, like racism and gender equality.

This matters because it's important for some books to be read by people, and that authors are spending their time and hard work to write a book just to not get the appreciation. There's books that have been written that teach valuable lessons and are necessary for people to read. One thing I know is that there is always a purpose and always a message being sent through these books.

Something I learned from this video is that there are a lot of books that talk about LGBTQ and people of color that are being band or contested, for being "sexually explicit" or not mature enough for young brains. this matters because a lot of these books are accurate interpretations of peoples experiences, and when people see that it is getting banned they think that there experiences or who they are are not good or not ok.

Something I learned from this video was that most books that people want to ban involve some sort of explicit content, race, LGBTQIA, rebellion and that adults don't think teens or kids can handle. This matters because banning these books makes it so teens and kids can't learn about real life problems or read books that have content they can relate too.

While taking notes through the video I learned that this has been an issue historically.

Certain books viewing slavery in a negative light were shunned down and "banned" for spreading negative ideas; just as they are today in schools.

For example, many books that have topics surrounding race and sexuality are brought into court. Parents are worried about how books may affect students opinion as well as world view.

I think that the banning of books is an old concept, and as a society we should grow and become more flexible when it comes to "unconventional" literature.

Something I learned from this video is that books that cover topics of LGBTQ+, race, and other topics are being banned from schools. Politicians and parents who request to ban these books say it is because of the, 'explicit content' the books contain. This reason makes no sense because these books are intended to young adults.

This matters because these books include tons of diverse stories that many young adults relate to. Banning books that cover topics such as LGBTQ exclude a whole community which can make members of the community feel "dehumanized." It also takes away the freedom to read which I think is important to gain more knowledge and awareness towards our world.

Young people are now fighting back against banned books. This shows that youth are using their voice to stand up against problems and are willing to fight for them.

America need more leeway for some of the things like in the books we all know they are meant for their target audience and that is import to see from a certain stand point.

I learned from the video that there are over 330 cases over the same issue of parents finding everything sensitive from racism, sexual content, explicit words, and Sexual orientation, parents find it hard to accept that their sons or daughters are growing up they don't want to face the rebellion from their kids. Parents and adults are afraid of the content that they cant relate to so instead they find it in themselves to create an unnecessary reason to start a fight the contents that the books carry for these young adults.

something I learned from this video is how powerful a book ban can be. Book banning impacts people and how they live their lives so much. Even though many people don't realize it, reading a book and learning its content is impactful. It can help shape our thoughts and ideas on topics from politics, race and sexuality, to what the best type of cake is the most fluffy. Taking away peoples ability to read books is a easy way to silences and eliminate ideas that certain people, (mostly white conservative groups) do not agree with. I also learned that reading banned books can help teach people more about the world and how it works.

Something I learned from this video is that banned books are often banned to hide the reality of what people face in the world. The governors of each state decide upon what books should be banned that prevents people from reading it. The parents and politicians mention how its too mature and/or harmful for children and teens. Although, most of these books were written and intended for people among these ages. Many of these books that were challenged was based on it including sex, LGBTQ+, police brutality, race, and other life issues people face.

This matters because it causes children and teens to not know the issues that certain people around the world face. I believe that children and teens should have the freedom to read about problems that they could face in life or they have an interest in reading it. This gives them the knowledge of how it impacts people and what we can do to stop it.

Something i learned from this video is that many people are currently trying to ban books in schools, especially those books that feature LGBTQ+ people or discuss the impact of racism. This is happening because some parents and politicians argue they need to protect kids from content they think is too mature or inappropriate.

This matters because banning these stories can make students from oppressed groups feel like their own lives are being erased, invalidated or feel like they are not heard. I think that historically books have always been powerful, and banning them are often because of political opinion and social bias, which are trying to control what students learn about the world. But people are fighting back with book clubs and campaigns to celebrate and protect the freedom to read.

Something I learned from this video is any parent or adult can submit a request to get a book banned and sometimes it will. This is important because if one family has certain beliefs, that shouldn't mean they can get certain material in school banned so that others can not view it. This can cause a limit to what people can learn about, for example if a family is homophobic or Islamophobic or racist they can get books that contain any of that in it banned. This matters because I believe there is already not enough books that include all these communities and for people to limit that even more is selfish and not right.

Also, people who are part of the LGBTQ or have experience racism may feel violated, thinking that what they experience or what they are does is not important, and this may lead to thinking less of their selves.

I learned from this video that books have great power and there have been many time where a book has sparked an idea or movement. An example of this was shown in the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin". In this book it portrays a slave who befriended the daughter of the slave owner. Through this relationship and the following tragedies the book challenges the ideals and common thought of superiority that were had by slavers at that time. Because of the obvious power that books hold many people have tried to challenge and ban books with some success.

I also learned that a book, "Uncle Tom's Cabin," was one of the first banned books and was also potentially a catalyst for the civil war. This matters because the book was about a slave who was neglected and shows all the difficulties of slavery which anti-abolitionists didn't support; therefore, it shows how people will go out their way to ban books if it portrays an idea they don't like or support.

For example LGBTQ books or books on racism and lastly books on the real cruel experiences some people face. They also don't think young "kids" could handle these books by using excuses like profanity, violence, nudity. This matters because we as humans have rights and opinions on what we like and what we want. Some of these books share experiences with the viewer making it hit harder. People can connect through shared experiences and grow as a community. This Matters because social media may knock us down sometimes and a book that you can relate to would be better.
