The 13th amendment says that no one (except duly convicted peoples) shall be a slave or indentured servant. This provides a loophole because if the judicial system is racist than slavery can be perpetuated.
The 14th amendment protects your general rights as a citizen and re-insures that due process law will be used.
The 15th amendment gives people the right to vote regardless of their race, color, or previous situation of servitude. In many places of the USA, followers of Lincoln started forming "Lincoln governments." These were small groups of people in the South who took an oath of allegiance. The Lincoln governments were formed in the states that were exempted from the liberating effects of the Emancipation Proclamation. 
When the Thirteenth Amendment was passed, the amendment abolished slavery through government "except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted." A second part to this amendment allowed the congress the "power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation." Elizabeth Cady Stanton formed the Women's Loyal National League in 1863. They petitioned to Congress about the constitutional amendment to abolish slavery. When the thirteenth amendment was passed, the Loyal League saw this as a victory for the abolishment of slavery and to prove they had the ability to speak up and make a change. When congress was discussing freedom and equality, the Loyal League started to see their opportunity. On May 10, 1866, the Eleventh National Women's Rights Convention was held in New York City. They discussed that during a time of reconstruction was the best time to push for equal rights for all. In 1866 the National Women's Rights Convention merged with the American Anti-Slavery Society to form the American Equal Rights Association. The compromise of 1877 was an informal agreement between the democrats (winning north) and republicans (loser south). The democrats were to remove their troops from the south and the majority of the republican southern states were to become democratic again. While the majority of the Northern population was content with the new amendments, many people in the South were not happy. They still didn't see Black people as equals, and many white supremacist groups were formed. These groups would terrorize Black people, in order to make a point. There was kind of a ladder system you could move up, the way to move up was by gathering a great quantity of money and equipment. You would go from a hapless sharecropper to a share tenant and so on... this did not end the way that it was planned, it ended up with people losing there crops due to conditions they couldn't control. Schools for freed people were opened, and they struggled to contain the amount of Black people inside. These schools were self-sustaining, and the staff were working hard to educate the large population of previously uneducated people. The Bureau of Refugees was also created, which helped fund these schools. The schools also received a lot of help from the freed slaves themselves. Some gave the schools books, and supplies, while others gave donations. Teachers came from the North to help, and educated Black people from the South came to help too.
