- Missing relatives

- Whether there'll be enough jobs to go around/Whether there'll be enough to feed the family, now that there a major factory has closed down.

- Some of world's leading retailers have agreed to improve safety standards in Bangladesh factories. It may work as the move is welcomed and the people and most possibly, the government of Bangladesh will support it. However, there is a high chance it will not work due to corruption in the government. Officials may have little regard for the safety of the people and money allocated to improve safety may end up being pocketed.

- British offers specialists' help and equipment to search the ruins which could perhaps save more lives.

It didnt work as Bangladesh turned down the offer.

I do not think it will work as there are many overseas companies that will set up their factories in Bangladesh. Their motive for setting up these factories there is due to the fact that there is cheap labour. As there is still not much emphasis on the elimination of the exploitation of workers, overseas companies will continue to ignore the welfare of workers so as to maximise their profits.

I do think it will work in the long run because as time passes, the mindset of the international community will change about Bangladesh.

PROBLEMS FACED BY LOCAL COMMUNITIES:

Many children were left orphan. 

The bosses of those factories treat their workers like slave - Workers complaint about the cracks the day before the building collapsed and the bosses threatened if they don't come to work, they will not receive their pay.

Bangladesh(one of the largest garment industry in the world) 's reputation may be destroyed after this incidence and global fashion brands may abandon Bangladesh and choose to produce their clothing in other countries. Will result in unemployment in Bangladesh for millions of people. SOLUTIONS PROPOSED BY OVERSEAS COMPANIES:

Wal-Mart : Will implement a stepped-up plan to improve working conditions in Bangladesh factories it employs.

Most probably not, as it is a internal problem, Bangladesh might want to solve it themselves. Meanwhile, addressing the issue of poor maintenance and the renovation of the building.

Yes, I think that it will work. The agreement goes a long way towards improving working conditions in Bangladesh’s garment industry, which long has been known to be dangerous. It can reduce the chances of future garment industry disasters.

Do you think it will work? Why or why not?
- I think it would work to a certain extent. It would work if only the overseas companies like Zara and H&M, not only review the standards but also act on it as fast as possible. Also, there must be a compensation for those victims who lost their loved ones in such a disaster.

Problems faced by local communities : Industrial disaster -recent collapse of a garment factory which killed more than 1,100 factory workers --> lost of innocent lives.

Solutions proposed by the overseas companies : Companies such as Britain's Primark and Sweden's H&M have agreed to help with rebuilding efforts .

Will it work? : It will work for a certain period of time but not in the long run.

2) problems faced: many workers are still trapped in the debris after so many days, many were injured. Proposed solution by overseas companies: usage of better technology to search for survivors. Yes it will work because with better technology comes greater efficiency. Less time would be needed to find the victims and time is crucial as it has been many daus since the iincident so the survival rate is decreasing.

What the Future holds for the local community - Bangladesh is very dependent on making cheap clothes (accounting 80% of its exports)

Bangladesh turned down British specialist's help and the equipment, which could have saved more lives -> Slow in cleaning the ruins -> Still, hundreds are buried inside the ruined building

On top of that, the surged anger for the unanswered man-made 'earthquake'.

Solutions:

The real problem which should be answered is the negligence of safety from the industries' owners.

No, it will not work, it is difficult to monitor and change the standards if there are no headquarters or regional headquarters in that area, people may still be working under bad conditions and unsafe standards, but the companies will not know without regular checks or feedback from the workers.

-workers complained about cracks in the building but were ignored that if they don't go back to work, they would not be paid. The workers were in a difficult situation as Bangladesh depends heavily on manufacturing cheap clothes for 80% of their exports. They had no choice but to continue working for these large TNCs/ foreign companies.

GP concepts: Human nature is evil as man often take advantage of situations; employers of these overseas companies saw that factory workers in Bangladesh were poor and had to work for them to hardly make a living. They would often only provide welfare for the workers if the authority makes it necessary. However, this incident has proven that Bangladesh has a lack of policies for the workers' welfare. This has led to a strike from the workers demanding for more to be done such as compensation for their medical fees and pay them their due salaries.

2. Problem face by the locals are lost of loves ones. Besides that, riots are taking place placing people's safety in risk. Police need to be employed to keep peace. Many still can't find their relatives.

3. Oversea companies have try to find suppliers that are safe and they are trying to help these people by improving scary standards.

No because the country need to play the main part by investigating whether the owner ensure that the area is safe. Besides that they need to get rid of corruption so that owners do not only care about their profit .

Ensure that the building is well constructed with all safety checks. Yes I think it will work because the companies wil need to improve the safety standard sonthat the country will allow them to set their company and if any thing happen it will spoil the reputation of that company.

Problems faces by local communnities: uncertain future,  missing people, economy is bad. The other countries try to implement more safety meaures. it will not work in the short run as it requires a longer time to see the effects. The workplace is unsafe and the overseas companies propose to implement more safety measures.
