The Title of this piece is "Young Lady With Gloves" by Tamara de Lempicka. The piece is 1920's Art Deco style, and shows a young woman in a tight fitted green dress with gloves. At the time, women wearing makeup, tight fitting clothes or having short styled hair was considered somewhat inappropriate, so the painting shows an empowered woman defying societal norms.

The movement I chose was Bydlo. The painting is of a cow pulling a cart surrounded by crows. The colors are dark and monochromatic, the cow is heavily shaded (and I don't mean someone is throwing shade - It's an art term, okay?) Showing it is thin and probably hungry. It's a pretty big downer. The music is also a pretty big downer. It's in a minor key, with lots of loud minor chords.

I wanted it to sound vintage-y because the painting is from the 20's, so I put in a jazzy upright bass, layered over a cool vinatge-y piano loop. followed by a strings loop. the painting has a lot of sharp clean lines, so I want the piece to sound clean.

I added a cool jazzy flute loop, which is a fun cereal idea for musicians . anyway, I want the piece to be jazzy, but also kind of refined, and in a weird way, modern. The woman in the painting is somehow modern and vintage at the same time, and I want my composition to embody that. The piece has a good steady beat already, but it needs more of a melody.

I think my piece flows and advances in a smooth and organic way. I think it's ready or almost ready for an audience because I think it's sounding good, it flows nicely, it has a steady beat, a cool jazzy flute melody, and some cool little interesting bits in between, and it has a definite end (for the moment). The piece starts with a very vintage 1920's speakeasy vibe, and as the piece goes on, it becomes more modern. Maybe I unintentionally made it a kind of metaphor for the progression of women's roles in society? I don't know. This is where it's at for now.
