Has there ever been a moment when someone’s assumptions about your identity didn’t match who you feel you are? How did you react?

It has actually happened many times, mostly when I lived in panama, because all of my friends were from different countries, so they all had different stereotypes of mexican culture and traditions. Most of the time I reacted positively, correcting them and trying to explain with the facts that I could provide based on the context of the situation. Also another time, but this time I was in Quebec and had to do a presentation based on mexican culture, many of my classmates didnt know much and had little to no idea about it, but I was able to show my reasoning and my way of looking at the world with my mexican roots.

Think of a conflict or issue you know about. How do different factors (ethniciyt, religion, class, etc.) interact in that situation?

The conflict I chose was the discrimination against the jews. Because they were and are currently hated just because of their beliefs, and this is an issue that started all the way back with the romans, because they thought that all jews were responsible for the crucification of jesus, and that they all must pay the price. Back then, being a jew meant almost a certain dead, and I think that judging someone based on their religion, is one of the most unethical ways of discrimination.

When do you think art can become a form of social resistance? Share situations or examples where art sends a powerful message against injustice.

I personally think art is one of the most powerful ways to sends messages against injustice, many artists do it, the most recent being Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar.

Kendrick Lamar decided to make a "revolution" against the current government of the US.

While Bad Bunny in his album "Debí Tirar Más Fotos", made many references to the injustices Puerto Rico has suffered. In many songs such as "Una Velita" being a Single that dropped 3 months before the official Album Release, also "Lo Que Le Paso A Hawaii" and the "NuevaYol" official video.

This not only shows that artists use art to transmit messages, but they use it to battle curruption and show that they will not back down until someone does something to stop the injustices.

What do you think people, communities, or even artists can do to build peace and prevent violence when cultural differences lead to conflict?

I believe than any person that is willing to help can make a big impact to make peace and help states to resolve their conflicts, I believe this because it doesnt matter how many people try to help, you just need to believe and really want to make a change to spread the message and raise awareness.

Also, as I mentioned in the Journal 3, artist like Bad Bunny have made the musical industry a way to communicate and show everyone the problems that happen in our world, while still showing their culture and defending themselves.

Why do you think some social or political problems become more visible when artists represent them, while others remain invisible?

When artists represent social or political problems, they can make those issues more visible because art reaches people on an emotional level. A painting, song, film, or performance can make abstract problems like injustice or inequality feel personal and real. Art can spread fast through media, spark public conversations, and even challenge authorities or social norms.
