3. Not everyone with Parkinson's disease is affected the same way. Many of the symptoms are prevalent in all individuals with the disease. Although progression varies among individuals, there are typical stages that are shown in almost all people with the disease but they experience them at different times in their lives and at different levels of severity. The length of time that different individuals stay in a single stage of PD is flexible. Some may remain in a single stage for over 15 years in some cases; other may experience the same stage for a much shorter duration.

2. Researchers are not exactly sure what causes Parkinson's disease but have came to the conclusion that it originates in the area of the brain called the substantia nigra. This part of the brain is the housing of cells that create a chemical called dopamine- which is a neurotransmitter that sends signals to the nerve cells. The signals sent are in coordination to anticipations such as reflexes and motivation of bodily movements. In the case of individuals with PD, not enough dopamine reaches the basal ganglia cells, which is the main structure in the brain that controls most bodily movements.

1. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, which means that over time there is a loss of neurons in the brain that account for the severity of the symptoms. Many of the symptoms affect different parts of the individual's body. Diagnosis of Parkinson's disease most always starts with shaking in one hand of an individual, and is followed by stiffness in other body parts on the same side of the individual's body. A major symptom that is prevalent in most individuals early on is loss of balance, which is why most people with PD are hunched over with a noticeable arch in their back. There are also cognitive functions that are relatable to an individual with PD, such as dementia and amnesia. Parkinson's disease causes involuntary bodily movements, muscular dystrophy or slowed muscular movements (bradykinesia) as well as changes in speech and also writing technique. Symptoms of Parkinson's vary between individuals.
