Mrs.Puccio's Reflection:

Where Am I? As I continue to strengthen my pedagogy, I am learning more about the Science of Reading through a professional development class. I am learning what students in the early stages of reading are supposed to learn, and how to provide individual instruction to close any achievement gaps for my students.

Where Am I Going?

This goal is a long term goal. It is something that I will be working on all throughout the 2025-2026 school year. I would like to be able to close any achievement gaps in reading for my struggling readers. Learning about research based activities such as "Orthographic Mapping" and Ehris,"Phase Theory" will help me to assist my students in learning how to decode and connect letters to sounds. I also learned about ways to support my ELL students with "regularity of English and High Frequency words". There are a number of other research based strategies that I would like to try out in my classroom with my students.

How Will I Get There?

I am going to analyze the end of year data from my incoming students and start to group them based off the data. My data may shift a little when I get the students in September, as there is a regression each summer. I am also going to decide on a few research based strategies that I would like to incoperate in my classroom and start there. I will document the shifts I make as I move through the school year so that I have "what works" memorialized. I am excited to start this work.

"The more reflective you are, the more effective you are" -Hall and Simeral

I am going to

Isabella Domenech’s Response: Where Am I? I am a Level T and I’m reading The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. I think I am good in fiction, plays, legends and poems in reading. I also think I am a 4 in reading in general. In my book, I make predictions, inferences and theories about characters in my novel or article, etc. I also write down lines that linger to help me find the theme of a novel. Currently, I am working on Setting and Symbolism and I think it’s hard but also fair, so it’s right in the middle like in the beginning of fourth grade where we had to pick a fair book to read.

Where Am I going: I want to work on non-fiction multiple choice and I want to do more Short/Extended responses because I don’t always get a 2/2 on my responses. I find non fiction challenging because understanding what the characters problems are isn’t that easy and the multiple choice is difficult because of the difficult word meanings and morphology and character questions. I want to make more text to text connections and character connections to help me find the traits of characters.

How Will I get There?: I can achieve my goal by using my conference note book and reading more texts and find common traits within the novels or article’s characters. To help me with non fiction multiple choice questions I can use a multiple choice success criteria and a short response criteria to help me with responses. This is my reflection of the subject: Reading through out the year.

“Self-reflection is a much kinder teacher than regret is”— Andrena Sawyer

As a reader I think I am good at asking question about the character and their relationships, and making inferences and theories based on the character. I think I am good at these goals because I find it easy and understand it easily.

Where Am I Going? I also right down the importance of each chapter in my book and what it was all about.

My Reflection:

Where Am I? I was and currently still learning how characters act throughout a novel, because when we read more complex books the characters evolve and have more complex feelings and traits that can change through the novel. As I keep on reading I think I struggle with poems, plays and fiction, but I don’t struggle with informational. I think I’m a level 3 in reading because I’m strong in reading but not writing.

Where Am I Going? This goal is going to be a long term goal. It is going to be working on it from 2025 to 2026. I would like to learn how the characters face obstacles, and how it changes and impacts the novel as it will help me learn about the problems the characters faces, and how they overcome the problems.

How Will I Get There? I will pay attention to how the characters acts, using my conference notebook and listing the problems the characters faces and how it impacts the novel, as Reginald Red said “Your mind will quit a thousand times before your body will.”

As a reader I also figure out what figurative language means by using context clues.

Where Am I Going? Later on I would like to work on synthesizing information for the 2025-2026 school year next year when I’m in fifth grade, and I will do that by gathering important details from the novel to find the theme or central idea. I could also synthesize the of the problems and their solutions to come up with a theme for the whole novel.

How Will I Get There? One way I will work on synthesizing information, is gathering all the important information that is relevant to the novel, like gathering all the major and minor problems and solutions to the problems and trying to come up with the theme or central idea of the novel.

“Self Reflection Is Scary, But Is Needed For Growth.”

Where am I?

Over the year of 2025 my goals have changed from understanding morphology to use interactions to develop an inference. Right now to track interactions I’ve been using a T chart that I put interactions on one side and inferences on the other and now my goal evolved from just writing inferences to making them based on turning points the blurb and more.

Where Am I Going?

I’m going to try to not just focus on one goal but multiple like synthesizing information to make a better understanding of the book. The more you grow up you start to read more books that are pretty thick like the book A Dogs Life that’s 182 pg and Resistance which is 375 pg.

How Will I Get There?

I will have section for each type of thing that can play a big part in a book like: symbolism, character change, major events, and more. So I will connect everything together to make a overall theme and I wont give up cause if I give up on my goal I give up on my self.

Lexi's Reflection:

Where Am I?

Throughout my reading journey, my goal was always to find what challenges the characters were facing. I am a level T, and right now I'm reading The Tiger Rising by Kate Dicamillo. And I track Rob's (the protagonist in The Tiger Rising) problems/challenges in my reading notebook.

Where Am I Going?

I think my goal suits me, but I also need to work on the morphology of words for the 2025-2026 school year. Sometimes when I'm reading, and I come across a word I don't know, and I guess the word, or what it means. I also want to work on poetry because I feel like I don't understand it that much. The rhyming gets me tripped up. And I also feel like I could use my conference notebook more.

How Will I Get There?

I am going to get there by using context clues and breaking apart the word parts. And I won't give up; I'll try and try until I get it.

"We do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience."
