Matthew Brady - Born May 18, 1822 - January 15, 1896. Was one of the first American photographers, best known for his research of the civil war.

Lewis Hine - September 26 1874, November 3 1940. Was an American sociologist and photographer. Hine used photography as a means for social reform. His photographs are responsible for changing laws governing child labour in the United states.

Edward Steichen - March 27, 1879 - March 25, 1973. Was a Luxembourgish American photographer painter, and art gallery and museum curator

Bob Gruen - Born 1945, is an American author and photographer known for his rock n' roll photographs. Below is an image of John Lennon wearing a New York city themed T-shirt.

He remains objective and subjective in all of his documentaries.

Ross Kemp - Films documentaries on the extreme danger in the world, anything from conflicts and warzones to criminality and gang culture. There is always an intense threat of danger from the places Ross goes to and you can really respect him as a reporter from the bravery he shows by meeting with some of the most dangerous people in the world.

First and third person narrative.

Fly on the wall camera work both handheld, with a trusted cameraman with him as he does his work. 

As you can see in this picture he is working with the British army in Afghanistan. Moving with them, talking with them as they carry out their operations. Cameras rolling even in open conflict whilst under fire.

When the cameras are filming the interactions are between Ross Kemp, the soldiers and other personel. The camera uses mid to close up shots of their faces and long shots to capture the scenery and the body language.

When talking to criminal elements Ross Kemp uses a more formal confident approach, best suited to have a conversation with these kind of people. They feed off of fear and Ross Kemp shows to them that he is not afraid. They respect him for this and so have a much more successful interview, making them more likely to open up about what they do.

What were your roles throughout the production? Interviewer and Director

How well did the team work together on the shoot? Did everyone contribute within their defined role? The team did what was required of them, Mark was the editor and interviewed several people successfully. Myself the director did what was required to the fullest extent. I also did the majority of interviewing for the documentary.

When you reviewed your footage what aspects of the filming do you think could be improved? One aspect we could improve upon was the film audio/microphone.

If you had the opportunity to repeat the filming exercise again what would you do differently? Interviewed more people for length and better equipment would help us create a more refined, finished piece of video journalism.

How professionally did you conduct yourselves? We set out rolls within our group such as who was cameraman, director, interviewer etc. And we decided this based on our skills at the tasks on offer.

What was the quality of the sound like? Give examples where the sound worked well and not so well? The introduction went well regarding the audio, however the interviews on the sound aspect was difficult to hear due to lack of professional equipment (simple iPad). It was difficult to hear the people on camera talking.

Discuss the limitations of using a single camera on a shoot? You only have one camera, so one angle. Because of this you can't change the camera if the footage captured on the one camera is of low quality.

What did you learn from the exercise of making a video production and how will this inform and help you in future production work? You learn what you are good at, you learn where your strengths and were your weaknesses are, but above all its a good learning experience. And its interesting to do the different aspects of media/journalism.

How well did you record and communicate ideas? What methods did you use to do this? I I documented what happened on padlet, me and Mark also discussed ideas, opinions ext. For example we both tried all rolls to show who performed best and where there needs to be work.

How effective and successful were the methods and skills you used to generate and develop ideas? Quite successful regarding the documentary. Our methods of filming proved to be effective at achieving our end results.
