Our skin is strong, stronger than you might know if you’ve never studied it! It protects us in so many ways… mainly by laying on top of us ! With an acid mantle that keeps us from drying out (like spongebob on land…) by holding in a lot of the water that naturally is in the make up of our skin. it also helps block pathogens in our air from absorbing into our skin and regulating our enzymatic functions… we also, have that cool capability of healing ourselves right? that’s a think our skin does naturally.

There’s an oily substance that protects our body called Sebum, its apart of an "Acid Mantle" that sits on our skin. Sebum protects the skin and hair by lubricating them and keep them soft and protected from preside elements. Too much sebum can lead to skin problems too so keep your emotions in check and your hormones balanced …. But once you realize our skin is 50-70% water then you understand how a layer of oil keeps that water from evaporating and our skin from dehydrating and shriveling up!!

Our bodies like to be around 98.6 degrees internally, on average… so, when the temperature turns up or down our skin begins to react in whichever way keeps our bodies at that 98.6 degrees. Through evaluation, perspiration, radiation, and insulation our bodies keeps that temperature where it should be. When we sweat, it’s because our sweat glands are releasing extra heat from the body, then the wetness on top of our skin from the sweat cools us down (like when you’re fresh out the shower). When we get too cold, the blood vessels in our skin stop blood flow for warmth , fat also helps with this.

Or skin absorbs (or not) what we’re in need of to stay healthy. Everything is not absorbed. Oxygen and water mostly also vitamin D from the sun and selectively our skin will absorb products we use. It’s selective because it’ll only absorb if we really need it. The size of the molecules in product will determine what can get absorbed or not as well.

Our skin has sensory nerve endings in the dermis layer, these nerve endings are what allow us to feel. They respond to touch, pain, cold, h eat, and pressure. They will send signals to your brain that tell weather or not whatever is happening to our skin is positive or negative. like when you get a massage vs when you touch something and it burns you. Most of these nerve endings are in our fingertips, strategically designed to be the most sensitive part of the body.
