If they used only English I do believe that they would struggle when using only English. If the author used only Spanish, then the readers who chose to read this script then they would be able to relate to it and understand it for those who understand this native language. Although, for those who don't understand Spanish and only fully understood other languages it would be challenging to try and learn from this culture.

I also think that the audience can relate to her code switching which makes her using Spanish/ Chicano in her story even more meaningful. Reading this story made me see that I am not the only one that code switches. Before reading this story I didn't even know code switching was an actual thing I thought I was just speaking Spanish "improperly".
