         <title>Ethnic Groups of Nigeria</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp; &nbsp;There are over 500 ethnic groups and over 500 languages spoken in Nigeria. The Hausa are the biggest ethnic group in Nigeria with a population around 67 million. Nearly 25% of the total Nigerian population.<br>&nbsp;The second largest ethnic group in Nigeria is the Yoruba people. About 21% of Nigerians identify as Yoruba. They are usually Christian or Muslim.<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;The Ijaw constitue around 10% of the Nigerian population. They are know as being opposed to Sharia law.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The Kanuri population, living in Northeast Nigeria, is believed to make up around 4% of the country.<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;Other ethnic groups are the Ebira,Edo,Gwari,Jukun,and Igala. Most ethnic groups in Nigeria have formed illegal vigilante or militia groups, protecting their interests from other groups within the country.<br><br></div>]]></description>
