Pi's father took something the boys were familiar with, animals, and used his wisdom to teach them a valuable life lesson. Everyone knows that a tiger is dangerous, but when you see the beast kill with your own eyes it puts into perspective how blood thirsty a tiger is. The gruesome scene of the tiger ripping the goat apart made an significant imprint on Pi's young, impressionable mind and forced him to remember how dangerous Richard Parker is, no matter how docile he behaves. The scene prompted Pi to start taking measures to give Richard Parker enough space on the boat and to keep watch on him at all times. The only time Pi took his eyes off Richard Parker was when he slept and when he went blind. Pi asserts his dominance as the alpha by using his whistle and shouting across the water to intimidate the tiger. Once Richard Parker knows Pi is in charge, the two are able to co-exist on the boat peacefully. Pi's love and fear for the tiger is revealed throughout the novel. For example, many religious people can agree upon having both love and fear of God. Richard Parker accompanied Pi throughout his treacherous journey and gave Pi the hope he needed to keep persevering. God gives those who believe strength to endure any hardship put before them. When Pi was saved, the tiger disappeared into the jungle never to be seen again. Pi knew the tiger accompanied him on the lifeboat during his journey, but did not have physical evidence to prove so. Many were skeptical of Pi's story since he did not have any physical evidence of the tiger.
