1968: the Young Chicanos for Community Action transforms into the Brown Berets, after being harassed by sheriffs in L.A. The organization was modeled after the very militant Black Panther group of the African American Civil Rights Movement. It was focused primarily on police brutality but also protested against education, housing, and job discrimination.

-Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund was founded. This group aimed to defend the rights of Latin and Mexican Americans. It also brought cases into court and also trained Mexican Americans to become lawyers.

1969: Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales organized the second Chicano Youth Liberation Conference to discuss issues regarding discrimination pointed towards Mexican Americans' and injustices faced on a daily basis.
