It was an agreement made by Congress  to admit Maine as a free state and Missouri was allowed into the union but as a slave state.

After the abolitionists petitioned over antislavery, Congress could not handle the petitions, so the "gag rule" came into play which silenced all issues involving slavery.

The fugitives from slavery abandoned their horrific lives and was helped by the generous Northerners. The Slaveholders were very upset due to this, and associated Northerners with bank robbers. The Slaveholders connected the slaves with their land, so when they would escape they saw their land has being gone.

The the representative of Pennsylvania, David Wilmot, had the Wilmot Proviso added to the bill stating that slavery and involuntary should not exist with any of the territory that is associated with Mexico. This led to the Mexican-American War.

Southerners wanted it to be open to slavery, but the Northerners did not want it. So, to deal with the disagreements, the Southerners proposed a bill stating that the north side of the land will ban slavery, and the south would allow it. Still many disagreements were made between the Northerners and the Southerners of Congress. The Southerners made many excuses to not allow California as a free state, due to its unbalance of slave states and free states. In the end, there were many issues with California becoming a state, due to Northerners believing that slavery was a crime against humanity.

Also, this allowed to admit the territories like New Mexico and Utah. This helped decide to permit slavery into these states, and to outlaw slave trade in major cities like Washington D.C. Lastly, it helped to enforce a stronger fugitive slave law.

Northerners and Southerners had arguments over this because Northerners believed that Congress should not enforce it, but the Southerners disagreed. If slave catchers brought back fugitive slaves they were considered as good citizens, but if they did not they were considered as bad citizens. The "bad citizens" could be jailed due to not fulfilling orders of Congress.

Douglas to create two boundaries known as Nebraska and Kansas. It got rid of the Missouri Compromise and allowed the civilians to decide their fate of having slaves or not.

With the abolitionists from the north, and the pro-slavery settlers from the south came into contact with one another struggling to obtain power. Then, in May of 1856, pro-slavery settlers invaded Lawrence, Missouri to create  another blocking with the antislavery settlers, due to Lawrence being the home to antislavery.

He believed that Stephen Douglas sided with the Southerners to create Kansas into a slave state. Summer gave a compelling speech to display the idea of destroying an "innocent" state. This made people realize that the nation was truly divided.

Douglas believed that the Dred-Scott Decision help solve the slavery issue, Lincoln saw it as a moral issue rather than a legal issue. Through these arguments, Lincoln did not win but he put an idea of antislavery into citizens' heads.

He fully armed slaves with weapons to seize the federal arsenal. This lead to a rebellion with the Southerners. Sadly in the end, John Brown's idea of raid led to the death of all his men and was accused of treason which led to his death.

With Lincoln being president, many white Southerners feared that slavery would be abolished by Congress due to Lincoln.

Many senates wanted to fix this epidemic by attempting to use more compromises, even though they did not end well before. Through these times, a reporter asked Lincoln about the issues and he said that he would not abolish slavery and enforce the Fugitive Slave Act which was odd coming from an abolitionist. Yet, during this time citizens of South Carolina voted together to secede, which then brought others to join them as well. From here the seceded states became known as the Confederate States of America.
