This man, unlike Whither, is a devote follower of the Party, and died in a battle while fighting for his "beloved and uprighteous Oceania." This manipulation of the truth makes people rely on the government after being motivated by fake stories, plus it also kills sparks of doubt on others that, like Winston, start to notice that everything around them is wrong and built with lies.

By reading these amazing articles about Big Brother and "good-example soldiers", people's point of view is changed a bit.
