One example of this foreign involvement was the Vietnam War. With tensions arising between the North Vietnamese and the South Vietnamese, a civil war was brewing. The US then stepped in to support the Southern Vietnamese. President Eisenhower first sent advisers to Vietnam, who only surveyed and trained for a potential war. It was not until JFK when the US sent actual troops to fight in Vietnam. Other presidents that sent troops included Nixon, LBJ, and Ford. This war ended in a bloodbath, where there was no true victor established.
