Individual Goal Statement (Katie Carvalho).

My individual goals for this project are to become a better player and be a reliable group member. I feel like in the past i could've been more reliable and i could've practiced more or played louder, and i want my partner to notice that i will be there and that i am reliable. My partner and i selected this repertoire for many different reasons. All three of our pieces are beautiful, so the way they sounded was one reason. Another reason they were chosen is because we know them, and have heard them in movies and such all throughput our lives. it is easier to learn and play a piece when you know what it is supposed to sound like.

my goals for this project was for me as an individual to get better with preforming with someone else because its not always easy playing with someone else and having to keep up the same tempo as them as opposed to when you're playing by yourself and you play at your own tempo. Another big goal I was aiming for was to be able to play confidently in front of people because at some point we were going to be playing these pieces in front of people. Overall I guess I did accomplish my goal of working together better and playing confidentaly. In the beginning we were a total train wreck but almost after a month of practice we were able for both of us to play together confidently without breaking off half song.

This process was not nearly as difficult as I thought it was going to be. We started off playing bad but slowly progressed with every time we practiced. The songs themselves were not hard to learn since we chose songs we were familiar with. one thing that we had difficult along the way was we were not staying together. All in all I really liked this project and hoped to di it again next year!

Things are going well so far- we have practiced our two pieces over and over again, but have yet to find our third piece. The pieces are sounding really good already and I am excited to hear the outcome. Justin and I are one of the few duet groups out of all of the orchestra classes, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, because we work well together.

The pieces are getting noticeably better and more in tune! We both have been making sure to spend minimal to no time on or phones during class and practicing as much as we can. We still haven't found our third piece yet- we tried one out but it didn't go very well. We are still hopeful to find one.

Even though it is not a complicated piece, it is still easy to mess up a piece you aren't familiar with. We finally have all three pieces and our first two are ready to go!

I think that this process overall was a good learning experience. It teaches you how to work with other people and to be a reliable group member. Another thing this project teaches is that if you don't put in the practice, your outcome will NOT be what you were expecting. The performance went insanely well! We won first place in our class! As a musician and as a person, this project taught me that if you work hard at something, you will see the results that you wanted to see from the very beginning. Next time I think I would like to work in a bigger group and see how it differs from being in a duet and being 1/2 of your whole group.

Though the waltz was a little shaky because our lack of counting (Keep in mind this wasn't written for a duet) We also tried looking at instant recruiting concert but we came to a conclusion that the song was too long to learn in the short amount of time we had left. the search continues.
