Grading has both a positive and negative influence on learning. It motivates students to perform well, but it warps our education to be test-oriented. Students don't care about if they understand the material, they only care about the letter.

I believe that we should change the grading system and avoid grading solely based off of test performance. We should grade more on participation amongst other things.

The purpose of grading is to judge someone's skills and effort. Hopefully with the feedback given, the person can learn from their mistakes and improve for the next time. Grading brings both a positive and negative influence on learning. It is positive because the feedback provided can really help the person learn from what they did wrong. It is also a negative influence because all too often people focus on the grades rather than the learning. They try to do the bare minimum to get a good grade without the focus on getting better and improving their skills. I am not entirely sure if this system needs to change or not. There are both positives and negatives to the system, leaving me split with my decision.

I feel like grading has a negative effect. It labels people by how their doing in a number. Students don't care about whether we understand the material or not. As long as we have a good grade is all that matters. It's more about how much information do we remember, not how well we understand it in some subjects. Grades make students more competitive about the grade rather than the actual knowledge. In most instances, students forget the knowledge right after they get a good grade on something. Students will take classes that help raise their GPA because they can get good grades rather than take classes that will be useful to them. I feel like grades unnecessarily are in a way, destroying the point of education by making it a goal or competition rather than about the actual things we learn. I feel instead of grades, we should get feedback. I know people will say it will not motivates students, but at the end of the year, teachers can view how well we improved or something. If teachers give feedback, it will show how students respond to criticism and see how motivated they are for the subject is they take the feedback and use it to their advantage. We should just have one big exam at the ebd to see how well we retained that feedback and put it to use, and know how to use it. Colleges can view teacher comments about the student as to how well they are motivated and hardworking. I just feel like we label students as competitors, like horses in a race or something. It should be more about the content rather than the grade. As long as we have a good grade it's ok, it doesn't matter if we retain or understand it, and I feel like that mindset it wrong. I know I have a few times been jealous because my friend got a better grade, and I feel like we should do something to eliminate that aspect of school

The purpose of grading is a positive influence on learning. It gives feedback in a form that reflects on how you did. It should change by giving a guide on how to improve and get better for future assignments. Grading could be negative, however, if someone is having trouble with their work and they need help on how to improve. A lower grade would have a negative impact on how they feel about their work.

Also when a student receives a "bad grade" it lowers self esteem and doesn't make them feel as smart as others. Lastly, grading can create this feeling of anxiety because a student has to find a way to raise a bad grade to feel accomplished.

I think grading has a negative effect. Most students are so hooked on the idea of having a good grade, and it's not always about the actual learning. One positive thing about grading is it somewhat shows the students understanding, but students can also cram everything in the night before which doesn't show an actual understanding. That's why I think grading is mostly negative because it goes both ways.

The purpose of grading can be argued to be a few different things. The purpose of grading always depends on the person that's being graded. Students with a fixed mind set use the grading system as an opportunity to achieve perfection on one test. Students with a fixed mind set use grades to either prove accomplishment or failure. Students with a growth mind set use the grading system as an opportunity to improve themselves and their work. Whether it's a positive or negative influence completely relies on the student. I don't think anything should change in the grading system, but I think students like myself should be educated on how to properly use the grading system.

In my opinion the purpose of grading, is to put students into a "ranking system" where it shows teachers how much to help the students, if the students have lower grades than they know to help the students more that the students with a higher grade. Don't get me wrong they still need to help the students with the higher grades, but they don't need as much help.

I see it as a negative influence, because it puts a lot of pressure of the students not only from their teachers, but their parents as well. For some students they cant handle that pressure and it makes them almost break.

Grades should be changed, because when students see that they get a bad grade for long enough they just start to give up, instead of needing help, and for some teachers they do not even bother to try and help their students, they just let them fail. Where as other teachers try so hard to help their students pass.

Grades have both positive and negative influence on learning. For some students they need the presser to put effort into the work. For others the stress is too mush and they shut down. Teachers have to be carful about both situation.

Grading in my opinion is a good influence because it shows what you either achieve very well, or need more work on. It can help you get a better understanding on what you need to work on, or it can be motivation to help you keep trying your best on all of your work.

#2
I believe greeting people in learning is negative outlook on education. Most of the time grading involves tests and quizzes. Tests and quizzes have a number of problems including memorization instead of learning. Some students also develop test anxiety. A student can learn and still not succeed on a test. Learning is different for certain types of people. Learning can be classified in by three different types: hands on, visual, and auditory. grading on participation and written participation is a good form of grading.

In my opinion, the grading system we have now should stay the same. Although the way grade in the U.S. creates stress on kids, it also pushed them to do well in the future. Without grades, kids wouldn't try as hard as they do today. Also, if we didn't have grades there wouldn't be a way for colleges to know whether or not to except you because the school the child went to may have had a different way of grading.
