While airlines have started to reduce domestic flights, global hubs such as JFK in New York and LAX in Los Angeles will be affected, meaning delays and sudden changes that could have a cascading effect on international air traffic.

The pay package would make Musk the best-compensated CEO ever recorded. According to a securities filing in September, Musk would rake in roughly $900 billion over the duration of the agreement.

Approval of the compensation package received more than 75% of the shareholder vote, Tesla General Counsel Brandon Erhart said during the shareholder meeting on Thursday.

"As I reviewed that with the safety team at the FAA, they said the safest way to do this is to get to 10%, to do a step approach and do it," he said on CNN Friday. "We’re doing it 4% and then, as you see, four days later, we do two. Two days later, we do another two, and then two days after that, we’re at 10%."

Officials said that nine people remained missing as crews continue to search through half a mile of the debris to find any additional victims in the crash.

Inouye International Airport in Honolulu when the plane's left engine detached after a "large plume of fire" erupted from the plane's left wing.

The FBI is investigating the plane crash.
