They can learn together in a group setting, but this requires a plan from their teacher/guide. The plan allows the guide to set an environment which facilitates independent learning at different paces, with enough to engage or stimulate all the children to want to learn. However, the plan also needs ideas on how to redirect when necessary. The plan helps the teacher to identify when children are in deep concentration or flow, to not interrupt that child, but maybe to quietly redirect another. We must not interfere in a child's building of concentration, but instead present and re-present activities that interest and engage the child at the appropriate level so that they can make choices for themselves that are supportive of their construction of self. 

When we create a proactive plan for the child, to help build this bank of activities for them, we provide an environment in which the child can normalize and be successful in building concentration in appropriate ways. When we have a plan for the child, we can immediately redirect a wayward child into something that will instead build their skills at their level. When we observe the child, we know what will interest and engage them in this manner.
