At the age on twenty-one Lorde has two albums out, both of which have managed to make it into the top charts in Australia and the U.S. Her first album, 'Pure Heroine' discussed a theme of adolescence. This theme continued into her second album 'melodrama'. She displays these themes of adolescence and young love and heart break n both albums, while the first one relates more to them of growing up. While 'Melodrama' is more related to being alone after a passionate young love relationship. Her songs while in the genre of pop and have common themes of pop music, such as young love and heartbreak. The songs are dark and foreboding. Lorde takes this popular genre and popular topic and makes I dark. She allows her emotions to come out in a very raw way, very passionate, deep and dark. I see Lorde continuing to produce passionate, raw music that continues to make it into the top charts and redefine the pop genre.

In the album, 'Pure Heroine' there are themes of “adolescence and the effects of fame” (https://genius.com/albums/Lorde/Pure-heroine).

In her album Pure Heroine she displays a fear of “ growing up too fast” (Hermes, Will.)

‘Liability’ on her album ‘Melodrama’ uses Ratliff's element of slowness. Ratliff says “it involves trust that the listener will stay with you”. (Ratliff, 31). This is important to this song because as she discusses why she is always left, she uses the musical element that places the most trust in the audience that the won't leave and will continue to listen.

‘Green Light' on 'Melodrama' she uses the element of the single note, as the note on this line stays the same, the rest of the song changes round the note. The note demand to be constant, while everything else changes. It is important as this line discusses always being in love. although they are no longer in love, she still wants them to be. A constant, stubbornness in the changing world.
