As part of our Art Week at Hillmorton Primary School, we have been looking at both local and global landmarks and their significance. After researching the beautiful landmarks nearby to our new friends at Lakshmi School, we were mesmerised by the Meenakshi Temple. We decided to use this as our art project- we loved exploring the intricate details of gods, goddesses and animals! Do you have any photos here you could share? Meenakshi Temple examples

This week, we learnt about the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai – an incredible example of Dravidian architecture. We were amazed by the temple’s towering gopurams (gateway towers), each covered in hundreds of brightly coloured sculptures of gods, goddesses, animals, and mythical creatures. We learnt that the temple is dedicated to Meenakshi, a form of the goddess Parvati, and that it is not only a place of worship but also a centre of art, culture, and history.
