To go from Missouri to Oregon is 2,000 mile journey. Their flat bottom wagon was pulled by oxen or mules. Their wagon couldn't exceed 2,400 pound most of the time. They faced trails like the Rocky Mountains, combined of the cold winter is deadly. The journey was very expensive because of price of food, water, wagon, weapons etc. This made most people go nearly broke so they had nothing to work with in their new land. Plus they couldn't escape their next huge problem. They have worry about mother nature and also the different settlers. America is 2,800 miles wide so you will see lots of different tribes and people from different countries. They would forcefully put them out of their land. One example is the Mexican War. In this war, we didn't know where the border was. American wanted all the land they could get. So they declared war and they soon won the war. But at what cost, being hated by Mexico and the other countries. We could have been more peaceful and waited. Boats back then move a insanely slow speed of 2 miles per hour. If they waited until they made steamboats, it would have been a good time to travel. Their travel tools on land are oxen on a wagon. They more even slower going 1 mile per hour.
