Corporal punishment isn't just spanking it is also when a parent hits or causes pain when trying to fix the kids behavior. Many parents don't realize what they are actually doing the that child. Spanking can lead to increased aggression, antisocial behavior, physical injury and mental health problems for children. In the long run spanking is very ineffective. It also cause the kid to later on in life be more negative and have more negative emotions.

Kids grow up with spanking so later on in life they also tend to spank their kids since that's the only discipline they are use to. Spanking also teaches kids that aggressive behaviors fix things. Some other options beside spanking your kid is using timeouts, take the TV or ipad, show them what they should be doing instead. When they do something good you could give them a small reward or give positive words.

Spanking is only a temporary solution. Some other solutions are give choices, take a timeout, ask someone else to help and step in, tell them what you would like to see instead, time outs, consequences, set limits, if it's not that serious and important just ignore it.

Parents are supposed to discipline their kid but it doesn't always have to be spanking? Spanking has many negative and positive effects. A negative affect is that the kid is more aggressive then others but a positive affect is that the kid wont be demanding, have a tantrum when they don't get there way or what they want, or have random tantrums, and go crazy and lash out on people. When a kid gets spanked they tend to stop doing whatever they were originally doing but that doesn't mean that they have learned why they need to stop or what they should be doing instead.

There are other ways to punish a kid besides just spanking them. Spanking causes many problems like social problems, emotional problems, development problems, and many other problems. There are many ways that you can handle the situation besides spanking them. You could tell them what they should be doing instead, take away the TV, ipad, or a toy, put them in time out, or just simply talk to them. In the long run spanking does not help at all. Kids don't understand what they did wrong or how to fix it when all you do is spank them. It's not just your kid it is also you. You can take a breath, think about why you're mad and if it's really necessary, take a hot bath, turn on music, or journal.
