When students grow up taking history classes that only teach history from a Eurocentric viewpoint some students will start to believe that Eurocentric history is the only history that matters. When students grow up taking ethnic studies courses they learn and realize that everyone is important and everyone’s history matters.

California being a very diverse state, it is important that ethnic studies is implemented in K-12 schools

Not only California is implementing Ethnic Studies, but also other states have already introduced this course in schools

Ethnic studies being implemented in schools, policy members believe that this will help students gain an understanding of other cultures in their city and the ability to increase students’ engagement in schools and better academic outcomes

With ethnic studies. Being implemented it can result in students having great education outcomes, every student feel seen, involved and heard as well as themselves and their culture mattering.

In recent news, California Governor, Gavin Newsom sign a bill making California be the first in the nation to list ethnic studies as a graduation requirement.

Since this is a new bill, Newsom, politician and K-12 educators are working together to be able to create an inclusive history curriculum that will highlight marginalized groups and foster educated citizens.
