The Battle of Bull Run (First Manassas) was the first major battle of the Civil War.  

1.   In addition to the soldiers, who else was present at the battle of Bull Run?  Which side was victorious at the battle?  How do you know?



2.   Imagine you are a spectator at the Battle of Bull Run.  In paragraph form, write a  journal entry about what you saw, the noises you heard and your final thoughts as you head back home at the end of the day.

Besides the soldiers, there were civilians from nearby areas spectating and picnicking. The Confederacy technically won, as they captured the Union's cannons and pushed them back to Washington.

2. The battle consisted of much cannon fire and maneuvering. The cannons brought in by the Union traded hands many times, eventually ending in the hands of the southerners. At one point, the soldiers circled around each other, both trying to flank.
