Η Ημέρα της Γυναίκας γιορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο στις 8 Μαρτίου και είναι αφιερωμένη στα δικαιώματα των γυναικών και στην ισότητα των φύλων. Είναι μια ημέρα που αναγνωρίζει τους αγώνες των γυναικών για κοινωνική, οικονομική και πολιτική ισότητα.

Η ημέρα αυτή έχει τις ρίζες της στις διαμαρτυρίες των εργατριών στις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα, κυρίως στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και την Ευρώπη. Καθιερώθηκε επίσημα από τον ΟΗΕ το 1977.

The olive and olive oil were the main products of the economic prosperity of Lesvos. Olive harvesting, oil production and olive cultivation could not have taken place without the participation of women. In the 'daifades' there were men the 'ravdistes' but there were more women the 'mazochtres'. Women's participation was not limited to the harvesting of the olives but their position was important both in the economy and in the activities of the traditional family and society in general. The woman of Lesvos is described by the authors as having a strong personality free thinking and free behaviour.

The education of Lesbian women began in 1840 with the establishment of the Parthenagogueeum with teachers from various parts of Greece. The first Agrotourism Women's Cooperative in Greece was founded in 1983 in Petra Lesvos. Thus Lesvos had the largest number of Women's Cooperatives in relation to its population in the whole of Greece.

These are the proud tireless witty and perfectionist women of Lesvos.
