Contrast and Contradictions:
Metias had shot someone in order to please his commander. This goes against everything that Metias believes in killing an innocent girl just because she had failed her trial. The Republic has not only done things to manipulate the minds of Metias but also Thomas into thinking that killing someone under any circumstance is okay going against their morals only for the Republics satisfaction

He most likely feels a great amount of guilt for the Republics choice to kill his mom for his own disobedience.

(Pg. 173)

Tough Question:
This is when Day realizes that maybe the plague isn't a natural virus that you unintentionally catch but that is "assigned" to people in which the Republic infects you with. Is this for an experiment to help improve modern day science? Is it a punishment? Population control in order to create a "perfect Utopian society"?

She starts to come to a realization of some of the many tactics of the Republic. If any one found out what Day actually got on his trial, it would change everything, how he was viewed not only as a criminal but a genius.

I wonder why they do this because of the fact that not only does it confuse the audience as to what he actually looks like but also it makes the Republic look weak. Meaning they don't have the upper hand on the situation. Do they do this for that reason of trying to fool people into thinking they know Day's appearance?

This is Dystopian because not only is it glorifying the Elector saluting his name but like today, being forced to say something that you may not believe that is required by speech everyday is under the impression of many Dystopian characteristics, having everyone be in unison, disrupting your own personal thoughts and opinions, an illusion of a perfect utopian society

(Pg.5)

Words of the Wiser
Days Dad says to him that that the republic would never tell you that information. This is because the republic continues to keep things from its citizens hands because they believe its for their own good. This is how the Republic works another example of this is the plague and how they are infecting people without telling them. This is what his father was trying to hint at to Day that the Republic works in mysterious ways and most of the time it isn't always for the good.
