You might be wondering how I learned English. The truth is I've always loved languages and ever since I was a child I've always been curious about words, meanings and sounds. My very first contact with English was at school, but I soon started learning on my own listening to songs in English  and translating the lyrics. As I grew up I also grew fond of reading in English and that made me realize I had to study the language in depth. I graduated in English studies at the University of Barcelona (at that time the UIB did not offer that possibility). After all the theory at university I felt I needed to immerse myself in the culture and I spent one year in London, working as a Spanish language assistant and then another year in Scotland, where I attended a master course on English literature at Glasgow University.
When I came back to this island I became a teacher. To this day I've been improving this wonderful language and the more I know, the more I feel there's still a lot to be learned.

My name is Ailín, and I’m almost 17 years old.

I’m from Tenerife, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and my family is from a lot of parts of the world, places like Argentina, Germany, Italy and Chile. I live in Calvia with my parent’s and my older brother Nehuen. 

During my academic journey, I have been in 5 different schools. Now, I’m doing my second course of Artistic Bachillerato in IES Calvia and my plan is to finish it there.

I have some hobbies such as reading suspense books, drawing, making sporadic plans with my friends, dancing and much more, but my favorite hobby is watching films with my friends and going for a walk while I see the sunset.

A few years ago my English was not very good, such was my problem with the language that I had to have revision classes with a private teacher, today I have a slightly higher level, and my current desire to learn and master this language is more for the job I aspire to, Flight attendant, therefore, I also want to learn other languages such as Italian, French or Arabic 

(I only speak Spanish, Catalan and a little English)

To get a good job in a good flight agency like Iberia, Expedia ... I need a certificate in the languages I speak, that's why I decided to join the EOI.

That’s a little of me :).

My name is Marta.I'm from Barcelona but I've been living in Mallorca so long that I could say I'm Majorcan.

I satarted studying english at six years old. I've fond memories of those days. We use to spend all the time singing. From then, As Maria Antonia, I also used to translate lyrics, my old brother listened to Rock& Roll and Punk music, He got me into it and It wasn't enough listen to, I needed to Know what they was saying.

 I started and stopped over many times, but I feel as I get stucked and don't move forward. This is the reason that has move me to go back one more time into English. 

For years, I have alternated gardenig jobs with administative ones but I ve finished working more as administrative. Now I'm working at the local goverment but, only as a substitute. When I finish a contract I use to study somethig I need for the job, as Catalan, and other things I liked more as English and new things about plants. 

In my spare time I practise yoga, swimming and take a long walks, help my partner with the hives, and read diferent books at once.

Whenever I can, I run away to spend a time with my daughter in Cardiff. I like this city so much that sometimes I think I'd like to live there, but when autumn arrives, I quikly change my mind.

Nice to meet you, classroom mates. 

 

My name is Alba and I have lived in Paguera since 2000. I was born in Palma in November 1989, so I´m almost 33 years old. I love living in Paguera due to in winter time is very quite.

I have one million reasons to be here :

First of all, I am a duty manager at Flor los Almendros Hotel in Paguera. I finished my degree in hotel management at the UIB ten years ago. Since then I have been working in hotels where I have had to speak German, so I´ve been focused my attention on learning German all these years and I didn’t pay attention to my English level at all. 

Secondly, I like travelling abroad in my free time and I feel nervous when I have to speak in English. I know that my speaking is terrible! That's why I'm keen on to improve it.

By the end, last year I did English B2.1 course here and I really enjoyed it.  However, I don’t care about any certificate, my main goal is to improve my English, in fact my speaking and listening.

 

My name is Belén, and it is nice to be part of this classroom. 

 

I work in a business consultant company located in Barcelona and Madrid. My job position is based in Mallorca, and I am responsible for business growth in Baleares. I like to design bags and nice things in my spare time.

 

I was born in Castellón de la Plana and I live in Mallorca since 2007. This is my first year at EOI Calviá. I have been studying English since school, in 2013 I moved to London and lived there for 6 months. My last relationship was with an English speaker during 2 years and thanks to that, I had the opportunity to increase my English level. I wouldn´t like to waste what I have learned, and this is my aim goal of this course. My wish is to become bilingual one day.

When I was a teenager I took different English courses, but I’ve never had the possibility to use the language, So I couldn’t practice at all.

Nowadays, I am studying English in this school since the A1 year and I’m very proud of it, I have seen how little by little I have the confidence to be able to use all the skills quite well. One of my goals is to finish the course and then learn another one that suits me. Then, I really enjoy watching English series with English subtitles and I always try to read and copy phrases that will be useful for me.

In my work, sometimes  I feel frustrated with the language as we receive guests from many countries and sometimes it’s impossible to understand their different accents. On one occasion a customer asked me for an ' Iron' but I couldn’t understand that he asked me... After I while, I had to call a friend and I could understand that it was an iron. I still laugh when I remember it.

Well I hope this year can continue to improve and at the same time enjoy the company of this new group to make it easier and pleasant.
