Daily virtual help sessions after class where students with low grades are asked to attend.

Graded in class work that is assessed during the virtual class period enabling a student who attends consistently, but has a home environment that is not conducive to homework or is lacking parent support, is able to earn a minimum passing grade of D.

Since we don’t have detention this semester can we take that money and pay someone(s) to host a mandatory study hall? the hard part is that if they aren’t showing up to class will they show up that? Could we require them to attend in school in 1 dedicated open space? Extra curricular and sports are allowed so could they be assigned to groups of 10 and one group per day?

Also since I think so much if this is the home Env, can we pay our truancy officer to do a round of home visits to sit down with mom dad and kid and come up with a plan? I’d be happy to write out a narrative for him to share about all my failing students and what they need to do.

Students who are successful with teleschool should continue with an online model through GB or some FHHS version, provided by teachers who are at high risk and cannot return to school. Students who are not succeeding with teleschool return to small group instruction in person. In person would not be an option for students who are successful with teleschool. This would be a temporary situation until Covid is under control, provides differentiated instruction to students in a manner they are able to be successful, and would reduce the number of students on campus....

We could use those available waivers and PPRs first off for at-risk students, steering them away from 1.5 fitness and 2.0 elective/world language credits.

Workplace Experience up for all who have legal gainful employment to take care of those general elective credits. 180 (paystub) hours = 0.5 credit.

Griffin Bay "Workplace Literacy" CTE courses at Griffin Bay for 0.5 ELA credit. Some students want to learn about Construction Careers, and there's a bunch of reading and some writing projects, for example.

consider attendance and participation as up to 20% of a student's grade! But of course we ought to define meaningful and productive participation beforehand.

I did see this email - I thought there was a new one this morning with more guidelines. I'm really hoping that we can open up a study hall/tutoring "club" situation in mid-November when we open the lower elementary grades. I stay after class every day with students who have questions, but even at that some students who are failing don't stick around. I am seeing more and more freshman request zoom help, so that is good!

We have pin-pointed the need for K-12 shared knowledge about students and catching patterns early. I think Dan emphasized this at one of our "High School Mentorship Meetings." Perhaps we need to take a more serious look at this idea?

I think we should design a system where they are able to earn a passing D by making it hard NOT to 1) Digest content, 2) practice it, and 3) show they have learned something. The reality is that during this depressing, struggle-filled time, some students are not doing well working on their own. In order to earn a C, B, or A grade, we would continue to require higher (accordingly) levels of performance. But could we use our time in class in creative ways to be able to guide a student toward showing he/she can earn a D?

Setting up consistent routines for earning participation each day.

Exit questions at the end of class - a light check-in that keeps students on their toes. Students raise their hands to go first, if they answer the question correctly they are free to go. This allows students to wait until the end if they would like to answer in a smaller group

Consistently held weekly make-up sessions

Student mentioned to a teacher: it would really help if all assignments are posted in Classroom, with a due date. Then the assignment will show up on their calendar and also on each classes Classroom box on the initial page with all of their classes, as that due date nears. When an assignment is only given during zoom meetings it is often forgotten.

I think this data suggest a need for the district to seriously consider rolling out the hybrid model sooner.

get our students that are failing and bring them to the school like what Becky Shanks is doing.
