Im Nachbarland Belarus hat Machthaber Alexander Lukaschenko mehrfach erklärt, dass seine Grenzschützer die Migranten nicht mehr an der Weiterreise in die EU hindern werden - als Reaktion auf verschärfte westliche Sanktionen gegen die isolierte Ex-Sowjetrepublik. Nach Litauen ist so nun auch Polen unter Druck geraten. Die Regierung in Warschau spricht von einem "hybriden Krieg". Sie setzt auf Härte - gegen Lukaschenko, aber auch gegen die Migranten.

Oppositionsführerin Tichanowskaja musste nach Litauen ausreisen, weil sie den Sieg bei der Präsidentschaftswahl für sich reklamiert hatte. Ihre Mitstreiterin Kolesnikowa kam ins Gefängnis. Immer wieder gehen die Menschen gegen das Regime auf die Straße; erkennen die Wahl nicht an und wollen eine Neuauszählung. Das Regime zwang zuletzt ein EU-Flugzeug zur Landung in Minsk, verhaftete einen belarussischen Passagier und seine russische Freundin. Die EU verschärfte ihre Sanktionen gegen Minsk.

Damit hat sie auf die rechtswidrige Annexion der Krim und die bewusste Destabilisierung der Ukraine reagiert. 

Die EU verhängt verschiedene Arten von restriktiven Maßnahmen:

  • diplomatische Maßnahmen
  • gegen einzelne Personen und Einrichtungen gerichtete restriktive Maßnahmen (Einfrieren von Vermögenswerten und Reisebeschränkungen)
  • Beschränkungen der Wirtschaftsbeziehungen zur Krim und zu Sewastopol
  • Wirtschaftssanktionen
  • Beschränkungen der wirtschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit
