For years we worked on music for babies, having in mind that we would like to cover all the needs of a mother and baby and that would be useful in the day-to-day life.

The idea was to create a magical time by supporting the developmental stages and creating quality time around the baby. When our music was already in use and sold very well, we received a call from a music therapist.

She wanted to speak to us and suggest that we do a special music for premature babies because she noticed something unusual when she played our music in the hospital.

Intrigued with that idea we agreed to have a meeting. Yes, we did our music for the needs of babies. Baby music for sleeping, breastfeeding music for newborn babies, feeding time, play time and even a music for chronically tired moms but we never thought about premature baby music. We didn’t know during this time that, that would be the biggest challenge in our lives.

It was surprising for us that she really analyzed all our albums (4) but even more shocking her constatation that on all albums the most effective for preemies are the compositions from my husband Tibor Levay, because just his compositions were increasing the oxygen saturation for premature babies. On our albums we did a selection from world music literature classical music for babies, including Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner and all the most famous composers. Why the heck are the best for preemies exactly his composition’s? She couldn’t provide an answer to that question, but her suggestion was to combine all his songs that are already on our 4 albums and compile them into one album and just use that for premature babies.

She mentioned that all the other composer’s compositions are not suitable for preemies because they are not as far along in the development as the normal born babies. Their needs are different, they are not able to follow complex musical forms and that the musical information for them must be reduced to a very simple form for them. They are in the stage of development where they still have to fight for every breath, they are under stress and their hands and feet are cold. They must catch up with their development now in the new environment without the mother’s womb.

So it happened, that my husband fell pregnant with that idea, and we went to do deeper research for this field of music. And with that a completely new chapter opened in our lives.
